100,000 Fireflies – The Magnetic Fields
What seems so atypical or at least a seldom celebrated kind of Magnetic Fields song is to many the archetypal one. And it is. The lyrics are there, the mood is there, the song is there, but those accustomed to and wanting banjos, cellos or Stephin Merrit’s voice should listen to the 11 love songs on Distant Plastic Trees and their other earlier material. This is the kind of song, sentiment and desire that need only come from one person, alone in their bedroom with a synthesizer, and it is ever so perfect.
