Candy – Trusty

It was implausible enough that this song would be in my head the first time. Now twice? I don’t think i have even listened to Trusty since that last time. I don’t even own anything by them. There must be something about this song that sticks. Something scientific. I guess it is pretty catchy.

Candy – Trusty

I wonder what kind of backlash, if any, Trusty felt when they found themselves lucky enough to be a Dischord band. Were there cries of fraudulence and opportunism over an out of town band squeezing their way on to the most parochial of record labels’ roster? Does it matter 10 to 15 years later? Who chooses Washington DC as their “pack up this small town, we’re going to make it in the big city” big city? Does it even matter 10 to 15 years later?

It was a good career move, if only in this 10 to 15 years later having the presence, the esteem, the still-in-print-ness, that being on a label like Dischord provides you. They do seem, origin aside, very much an out of place band on the label, but i guess that’s just reckoning what kind of music belongs on a label that at once to me is a home for Void, Slant 6, Hoover, Rites of Spring, Lungfish, and Q And Not U, in all their distinctness. Bands, local bands, that Jeff and Ian like.
