Só o pó – Rádio de Outono

I’m very proud of myself for getting a Rádio de Outono song in my head that isn’t Além da Razão. It’s a case of a band writing one above and beyond phenomenal song, a song leaving no room and no desire to spend time with other consequently, comparatively, lesser ones. Obviously, inescapably, that one song. The Blueline Medic dilemma, i think they call it. And like the Blueline Medic songs that aren’t Making the Nouveau Riche, these other Rádio de Outono songs are really good by themselves. Really good. It just may take a while to realise it. I really thought i would never get past Além da Razão. Happy day. What ever happened to this band?

Além da razão – Rádio de Outono

I had all but forgotten about this song until it came around on random driving home last night. It’s funny, but also endemic of my listening habits and this modern world that facilitates such habits, that something i was so instantly and completely swept away by i’ve let lay on the bottom of a pile i keep throwing more and more music on. Além da razão – Rádio de Outono

Again! While not perfect, it sure is catchy. All i found out without learning Portuguese is that they haven’t released anything since this self titled mini album, their website 404’s, they don’t have a guitar player, i have to check out this Jovem Guarda thing, and they made a video for this song, confirming just how clean cut and handsome you would expect them to be.

Além da razão – Rádio de Outono

Success! I only heard this song for the first time yesterday; the band for the first time as well. It usually takes too long for me to recall a song i’ve just heard – to know it. It takes three, four, more hearings and an environment i’m almost never with for anything to set in. Maybe this is the same for everyone. It’s just frustrating when there is too much and not enough time. Maybe if everything were as plainly catchy as this song things would more readily stick.

Rádio de Outono are (i think are. This EP was released in 2005, so unless they’ve broken up since then…) a band from Brazil who actually sing in Portuguese, which is great. Of course they might be singing about something disagreeable or offensive, but i’m according every benefit of doubt to them on that. “Além da razão” translates to “beyond reason.” Colour your perceptions from that. And i don’t think it’s enough to just say they are from Brazil. They are from Recife, Brazil, which may mean as much as me saying i live in Katoomba not Sydney. A lot.

Now on to find what else Rádio de Outono have done.
