Knick knack – Beat Happening

In this day of pop star adoration and that bedroom-wall-on-show-for-everyone that is tumblr, it is always swoonings and pictures of Calvin i see pinned up, never Heather. If it is her, it is always in a group publicity shot, far from the microphone-holding, shirt-pulling, can’t-bear-being-him pictures of Calvin, and the reason and desired effect with which they are posted. That is the image that sums up Beat Happening for everyone and what they get out of it. It’s a pity, because Heather’s songs for me are in every way as important and thrilling as Calvin’s. I’m sure they are for everyone else too. It’s just a side of the band maybe less photogenic.

Knick Knack

Knick knack – Beat Happening

Almost 6 months and this is the first Beat Happening song. A Heather song. Last week’s Wedding Present entry: exchange every instance of “Wedding Present” with “Beat Happening”. Not that its an identical matching, in love, in what either band elicits me. For both, there is that knowing that the pop song is the ultimate song, love the ultimate songmatter, but Beat Happening did a lot more. And do a lot more for me. By how much i love the Wedding Present, that’s a whole lot more than a lot.
