Self Starter

Self starter – Henry’s Dress

I was thinking the other night that Henry’s Dress might be my favourite band that i don’t actually own any records by. It’s with wishful thinking to overcome this that i went today to this time of the year’s record fair. No luck! What a surprise. I think i’ve already drawn most of the records that are ever going to float to this part of the world. A low day. What i did buy was:

Unthinkable thought – Blood of Others
It’s a fine line – The Cannanes
Simple question – The Cannanes
William – The Cannanes
Living in fear – Groundwork
Jilted b/w Truly – Hazel
The negatives – Hood
Sorry for laughing – Josef K
Ain’t you b/w Heidi’s head – Kleenex
Tinnitus – Lifetime
Melt – MK-Ultra
White mice – The Mo-Dettes

Sendero – Born Against

This is not my favourite Born Against song, but it must be one of the greatest songs ever written. It’s like i want something else from Born Against – use them for different reasons. I don’t know. It was record fair day again today, and in what has become something of a tradition, i’m going to tell you what i bought:

Attraction action reaction – The Aislers Set
Stickleback – The Edsel Auctioneer
Troubled times – Thee Headcoats
Sugarloaf/Waterboy – Lincoln
Normal man – Men’s Recovery Project
Blip – Minimum Chips
Makes me high – Small
Standfast 2000 E.P. – What Happens Next?
Sebadoh/Azalia Snail split
Shank/Minute Manifesto split

the first Boys Life LP
Wasted dream – Death Side
Whatever – Doughboys
In passing – The Farewell Bend
Trouble’s a ‘ brewin’ – Floodgate
Purity and control – Giants Chair
Unsolved – Karate
Cypress – Let’s Active
Lazy ways – Marine Girls
Coded messages in slowed down songs – Shank
Funeral at the movies – Shudder To Think
Crush kill destroy – Spazz
the first Possessed To Skate comp.

It was the first record fair i’ve ever been to where i’ve bought more LP’s than 7″‘s, but that’s the state of record collecting nowdays. The resurgence in record popularity is an album-led one, one reaching back to some late 60’s whitewashing definition of the album being king. No one thinks anyone wants 7″ records. It doesn’t fit into the retro picture, so hardly anyone deals in them. It’s sad.

The Red Door

The red door – The Aislers Set

It was record fair day today so – waking up a 5:30, gone by 6 – that is why i’m writing this so late. This song being in my head was a wishful subconscious coming out and affirming the kind of thing i was hoping i’d find today. Even though i already own this. It’s the only Aislers Set record i do own.

No Aislers Set, but it was quite a haul. Someone was clearly doing the sensible thing by ridding himself of physical media, so who am i not to capitalise on that? I’m not proud of what i spent, but it was there, it was never there before, so i bought:

Biff Bang Pow – Love’s Going Out Of Fashion
Blood Sausage – Touching You In Ways That Don’t Feel Comfortable
Bogshed – Morning Sir!
Boys Life/Giants Chair – split
Bubblegum Splash – Splashdown EP
Built To Spill/Marine Research – split

The Chills – Doledrums/Hidden Bay
Delta 5 – Try
Depeche Mode – New Life
Depeche Mode – Just Can’t Get Enough
The Edsel Auctioneer – Our New Skin

Erectus Monotone/Polvo – spilt
Even As We Speak – Goes So Slow
The Flatmates – Shimmer
Gentle Despite – the Darkest Blue EP
Heavenly – P.U.N.K. Girl
Heavenly – Space Manatee
Huggy Bear – Rubbing The Impossible To Burst
Iconoclast – their first one
The June Brides – No Place Called Home
The June Brides – Every Conversation
