I’ve done everything for you – Rick Springfield

It seems so strange for a heartthrob to sing a song of spite, but that’s the kind of heartthrob Rick Springfield was. Look out, girls! Maybe that should be the heartthrob Rick Springfield still is. The man is a vampire. 62 years old in August, and if he still looks anything like he did on The View those months ago he’s throbbing many a heart still.

I’ve done everything for you – Rick Springfield

Where are the Rick Springfields of my generation. The lone, love scorned guitar guy with soap opera star good looks, getting away with kicking up such a crybaby stink because the male portion of the audience want that stink kicked up on their behalf and the female part are forgiving, sympathetic, consolate – they would never be that girl to him. They’re here still now, i guess, but Rick Springfield was an adult. When he said “baby” it was to someone very much not in their infancy.

The music industry has changed so much. The world has changed. Not in that parity and market expectation along gender lines, but that the record buying public is now so preponderantly young that anyone of Rick Springfield’s age singing the way he did back then is singing to pre to barely pubescent girls, and that doesn’t fly. Maybe his analogue today is someone like James Blunt or Mika. But Rick Springfield was cool! I don’t know. I don’t need a Rick Springfield myself. Maybe someone does. Where is that person’s Rick Springfield? Maybe Rick Springfield himself. He is looking amazingly well for someone whose career peak was 25 years ago.
