We Hate All Kinds Of Violence, its cover and title, is the best interpolation of punk in pop ever made, way better than that GISM patch on Lady Gaga’s back. Even their name spelled out – High-five of Teenagers – just has this incredibly potent, rebellious, mobilising, everything-or-nothing force and promise to it. And if you say it isn’t really delivered in the music, tell that to those who would live and die for them back in 1996.

I watched this video of an Onyanko Club reunion last night. I think it was their first, in 2002. It was them in the studio recording their single and i’m not sure if it was the raw recorded version and more tweaking needed to be done, but oh my it sounded bad. There were sparks of brilliance back in the day e.g. Sonoko, Sanae, Shizuka, Kazuko, Mamiko, but as a whole they weren’t relying on singing talent, rather a spirit. Anyway, getting this group back together after fifteen years apart, after fifteen years of no practice, after most of them moved away from show business into quieter, non-singing lives, it was not a pleasurable listening experience.

Akie was not part of this reunion, but she was one of the worst singers in the Onyanko Club (yet one of the most popular) and i half would have liked to have seen her there and half dread how further worse it would have been. I’m sure no one who had waited for an Onyanko Club reunion was that critical about it.

Hmm. Well. When i started high school, the first mufti day this weird sorting thing happened when a scattering of Frenzal Rhomb shirts singled out who the cool kids were. It’s as cool as things had to get back then, consensus brought about through lack of world experience and not wanting or needing to stray to far from what everyone else wasn’t straying to far from. What do kids have nowdays if not Frenzal Rhomb? There will always be something.

You wouldn’t know there were any other Delay songs out there going by what pops up here. This is the fourth time i’ve posted this. There were two Delay albums i knew i didn’t own the first time this song came up, and now, if they’ve kept it up, who knows how many? Or if they’ve even kept up pop punk and haven’t followed the world to where the money is. Not to say they shouldn’t, but it would be a shame if they did. In that mid 2000′s pop punk revival they were one of the brightest bands, and someone has to keep on being a dork.

And here is the Choughs’ original. It’s lucky that it exists because otherwise i would have had to been boring and post the exact same song as yesterday. The Another Sunny Day one is probably the better version, but Harvey moved to London, and the Choughs were that special band who remained a Cornwell band and were able to inspire him.

Of course it being one o the only CD’s i have left means inevitable inclusion and perhaps flooding of them here. I would have thought more by now. This is not originally an Another Sunny Day song, but a demo of a cover from another band from Cornwell called the Choughs. I’m not sure if there was a connection, if Harvey Williams was a part of them, or they were just local heroes caught in young Harvey’s heart, but this version has definitely outstripped and outlasted the Chough’s version as the version of this song. Who knew it is meant to have a trumpet part? Who knew Another Sunny Day’s best song was a cover?

What a wimp. I’ve had to put all my CD’s in boxes at my mother’s garage for space issues, and the Another Sunny Day singles compilation is one of the only i have left with me. It was in my car when we moved, and there it has stayed, and there i must have heard it at least twenty times driving to and from those places i do. It is mostly due to having nothing else, but i’m totally ok being stuck with it. And not only because of these songs. Through being spoiled, it has been years since i’ve listened to anything this concentratedly, and i’ve been given such space and time with this it’s made me question the way i’ve taken in music these last few years.

A candidate for most inversionally proportionate greatness-to-popularity song ever released. Who were these Capitols? Why are they on my computer? Didn’t they already know about Cool Jerk before they named their band? Why do i only have one song? This is perfection, right here.

I missed two days because of school and work. Two songs. Both incredible, but one i should be more ashamed to say i think is incredible. The other i want my whole identity and essenceto be read in. Guess which? Maybe i should be ashamed of both.

R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman. Slayer would have been a slower, tamer, less punk, less blonde, just plain lesser band without you. Though maybe a band less readily linked to Nazism. See, it follows him even after death.
