Falling and laughing – Orange Juice
Quite simply one of the best songs ever written. And it was their first single! It does things to me – things i very much like it doing. Both in the helplessly gooey-inside way Edwyn Collins subdues me as he sings that rising verse, and how gently it drops; and in that i actually GET gooey inside – i respond. And how. The way he sings “…and consequently…” Oooh…
I like the single version more than the album one. There seems to be some debate over which is better. Mostly i like the Postcard version because with their album Orange Juice had everything they needed, production and studio-wise, to aid them to perfection. I like things a little tempered, innocent, less god-like. A sound of a young Scotland asserting itself with its own means.
