Why i cry – The Magnetic Fields
Because Artie, the strongest man in the world, left to go help another kid growing up. It’s funny how youth and adulthood collide sometimes. A song part of a soundtrack of a show you loved as a kid turning out to be by this band you discover through completely disparate means once grown up.
The Adventures of Pete and Pete is littered with fantastic songs, and not all of them by Stephin Merritt. It is something i always was aware of, but never attributed the music on the show to bands, real bands, lending real songs at the request of the show’s creators – looking for perfect music, finding the perfect bands to supply that music. I wish season three would hurry up and be released on DVD already. If it’s for the usual reason of song licensing, then that’s very sad. It’s still the most fantastic of shows, regardless of intended audience.
This is probably my favourite Magnetic Fields song. And it’s not a 69 Love Song. Breaking a trend.
